About time I had a floor to sit on so have brazed up a lightweight frame from thin angle to add support. The floor will be made from fibreglass sheet and over-clad with thin aluminium. Cardboard templates will be the next job.

I have had no luck finding suitable mudguards with the correct radius for the 15" wheels, so have made up a mould. With the narrow tyres I think close fitting ones will look more the part, with the front ones mounted to the hubs to turn with the wheels.

  1. While cleaning up and organizing out in my carport last weekend, came across part of a stainless steel spare tire cover off of a big Van...I picked it up years ago thinking that some day I'd cut it in half to fashion fenders (mudgaurds as you say) for a car I might build someday. Something like that might give you the radius you are looking for. Have you heard of 'Alucabond'? (believe that is the name) It's thin aluminum bonded to a polyethylene or similar plastic. I remember reading Corvette seat backs were pressed from sheets of this. A friend of mine has a sheet of this stuff that makes up one side of a chicken coop...can't talk him out of it...Projects looking good there.

  2. Hi Larry, Now that would be just the stuff if I could find it. Luckily I had some left over fibreglass sheets from another project which have been perfect for making the floor. I could paint the floor, but think it would look better clad in ally (and a bit stronger). Keep hold of that spare cover it could safe a lot of time making a mould. After making mine a friend found an alumiumm mudguard with the perfect radius. Typical!
I think I will make a mould from it anyway as it has a nice section. What project do you have on the go larry?

    1. Hello Davem, My main project at the moment is getting my work space and tools in order again...so I can proceed on some projects. Trying to make room for a motorcycle lift, and for the lath I bought a few years ago. I'm thinking about getting the CB 550 back on the road with a sidecar. Then on to a couple of Triumph 650 projects. Been talk on and off with a friend about renting some shop space nearby...but never seems to pan out, so will make-do with what I've got.
